Update: Tula is progressing with her groundwork and even working with some volunteers. She tends to be a high energy, reactive horse, but has become significantly quieter and more thoughtful when paired with a handler who is calm and confident.
Tula still has much “go” than “whoa,” but is making improvement in her ability to think and problem-solve. She tends to be energetic and reactive and will likely always need a more advanced handler, but she now calmly leads, lunges, ties, loads on the trailer, and stands for a farrier. She doesn’t always retain her skills very well between handlers, but she will start working with volunteers soon and we hope that exposure to more people will help.
