Nigel is a friendly gelding who loves a good wither scratch. He arrived at THS through NMLB as a stray stallion and had received under-saddle training in the past. With his easygoing temperament, Nigel is pleasant to handle and does well with leading, tying, grooming, and tacking up. He is generally relaxed under saddle but would benefit from additional training to improve his responsiveness. Due to stiffness in his hocks, which improved after injections, he is best suited for walk/trot riding only. Nigel’s ideal home will have sturdy fencing and secure gates. He should be housed away from mares, without sharing a fence line with them. He would do well with his own living space next to another gelding, allowing them to safely socialize over the fence.
Needs Intermediate Rider: Rider is comfortable at all gaits and has some problem-solving/training skills; has experience and confidence using rein/leg/seat aids to help a horse maintain speed/direction/cadence/posture; willing to work with a trainer if necessary.
