Julia Peters
Director/Julia is a principal and Chief Counsel of Avalon Trust, a private wealth management company located in Santa Fe, New Mexico with offices in the New York area and Portland, Oregon. Since its founding over 25 years ago, Avalon is committed to sustainable investing, serving a diverse group of high net worth individuals and nonprofits located from coast to coast and abroad who share a concern for corporate environmental, human rights and governance practices. Julia takes a proactive and creative approach to planning and deals with a variety of transactions in her role at Avalon, from handling special assets such as art collections and real estate to helping design and implement philanthropic strategies. Before joining Avalon, Julia practiced estate planning and real estate law in Seattle and then was a managing partner of the law firm of Sutin, Thayer and Browne when she returned to Santa Fe in 1998. She currently serves on the Board of the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas, is the former Board Chair of the New Mexico Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, has been on the faculty of the National Business Institute and is a graduate of Leadership New Mexico. Julia earned her bachelor’s and law degrees from Willamette University and is a member of the New Mexico and Washington State Bars. Before her parents moved to New Mexico when she was in high school, Julia spent her early years in a small rural Northern California town, exploring the Sierra Nevada mountains on foot and horseback. The accessibility to the vast natural beauty of New Mexico is what drew her back. A cowgirl at heart, she is an avid animal lover and enjoys galloping, hiking, gardening and travel.
