Tango

January 14, 2021:

Tango has really started to shine in the last couple weeks. She is more confident about being caught. She has been doing so well with all her ground work and stands quiet for grooming and saddling. She is starting to get softer to pressure from the bridle and is learning to give to that pressure. She has been introduced to collection at the walk and trot. Tango has been handling the trails like a seasoned horse. She does well with difficult footing and is willing to go exploring. Tango is still green and will require an advanced rider.

December 9, 2020:

Tango is really coming along under saddle. She has been handling the arena and the trails with confidence. Tango has a tendency to be a little heavy in her face with the snaffle bit, so we have been working on that. She is also getting better with her response to leg pressure. But overall she has a lot of try and willingness to execute different maneuvers. Tango is still green and will require an advanced rider.

October 28, 2020:

Tango has been coming along great. She has improved a lot with her catching and her riding also is coming along so smoothly. Tango has been ridden in a side pull and a snaffle bit. She also has been out on multiple trail rides by herself and rides well in the arena. She continues to get softer and more responsive to steering and leg yields. Tango is still green and will require an advanced rider.

October 7, 2020:

Tango was a part of our 2020 Gimme Shelter Challenge and unfortunately she was not adopted at the completion of the event. She was started under saddle by Stephanie Gershon and will continue training here until she gets adopted.  She can still be timid with new people and being caught. However she has had a great start under saddle. Tango has been exposed to arena work, trail riding, and water crossings. She is still green and will require an advanced rider.

June 11, 2020:

Tango was selected for the 2020 Gimme Shelter Challenge and is currently off property for the 100 days of training with her trainer Stephanie Gershon.  She will be available through our adoption-based auction at the completion of the event.  Please see the events tab above for more information and updates on all the horses in training.

January 6, 2020:

Tango has been progressing so well in her training.  She is getting more confident and is starting to follow our trainer around in her pen.  She is also learning how to pick up her feet and stand quiet for different objects when they are introduced to her.  Tango is a smart girl with a lot of try.

October 15:

Tango’s baby (Two-Step) was weaned just a few weeks ago and Tango is doing well with the transition.  She now can be haltered in her pen and is gaining confidence every day.  In the future, we are looking forward to having some volunteers help with her ground work training to get her more exposed to different people and objects.  Tango will be held for the 2020 Gimme Shelter Challenge pool of horses.

May 11:

Tango recently foaled out, and we now have a strong healthy colt who is already very curious.  We will allow Tango to have some one-on-one time with him before we jump back into training with her.  Before her colt was born she received her vaccinations and dewormer.

Update March 21:

Tango has really started to come out of her shell in the last few weeks.  Though only having the halter on a handful of times, she is starting to let people approach her.  We have even been able to touch her in her pen with no halter on.  Tango looks to be in foal, and we will be expecting her to have her foal sometime in the next few months.

Tango is a feral chestnut mare that came to THS in a group of 5 horses that were picked up by the NMLB as estrays in Cuba. She has a bay colt at her side (Taz) and seems to be one of the calmer ones of this group. She looks to be in good health, good body condition with a shiny coat, and appears to be in foal. Tango will need some work following quarantine but should make a nice mare. Not available for adoption.
