Mick

September 1, 2020:

Mick has come a long way since his last update!  He is relatively easy to catch now, leads and backs well, sends over/by obstacles to the right and left, picks up his feet, and loads in and out of the trailer with ease.  He will join our volunteer class program soon!

June 7, 2020:

Mick has progressed well since his last update. He is still a little wary of being caught, but it does not take long to get a halter on him. He is learning to lead and come off the feel of the halter, backing up, and allows us to rub him all over.  He has become a willing student.

Update January 6, 2020:

Mick was very tentative when we first started working with him.  But in a short time, he has grown more confident and is starting to approach us to check us out. He has been haltered and showed a little understanding.  We have been able to stroke his face in his pen with him staying quiet and relaxed.  We think Mick has very little exposure to people.

Mick is a 3-year-old chestnut gelding that was picked up by NMLB in the Santa Fe area as an estray. He was wearing a halter that had become too tight causing some rub marks, and was close to becoming embedded across his nose. Mick currently is not touchable and can be a bit threatening at times when pushed. He will need some handling before our volunteers will be able to help with his ground work training, and unless he has a late growth spurt he will be too small for our Gimme Shelter Challenge. Mick will be available for adoption following his quarantine time and after he has received some halter training.
