Drifter

Update September 1, 2020:

Drifter participated in a nation-wide 60 Day Groundwork Challenge this summer and was the winner of the Week 2 Hindquarter/Forequarter Yielding Challenge!  He performed wonderfully in all the other challenges as well. He is now working with volunteers during volunteer class!  His skills include: Staying with his handler at a walk and trot; being sent over/by obstacles at a walk and trot; liberty work in the round pen; he stands tied; picks up his feet; accepts deworming paste; accepts the flag; loads into the trailer at a walk and trot; and more!  He is a handsome, well built, sturdy pony with a good groundwork foundation.

Update June 7, 2020:

Drifter is much easier to catch now. He has come a long way with being soft on the halter and enjoys liberty work in the round pen. He’s a smart guy and learning to become a gentleman.

Drifter is a 4-year-old dark brown/black pony gelding found on a big ranch near Wagon Mound. Drifter was able to make his way to the main ranch area where he was held for pick-up after NMLB was unable to locate his owner. Right now he stays just out of reach but once caught he is halter trained and loaded into the trailer with a little encouragement. Other than his size, Drifter looks more like a horse than a pony. He is currently in quarantine so not available for adoption.
