2022 Gimme Shelter Challenge

August 25, 2021:

Diego is getting regular ground lessons now. He can be reactive and anxious when being introduced to new things, but shows he can work through his emotions when given time to process and understand.  He is starting to come out of his shell, becoming somewhat more friendly toward strangers and being playful during ground lessons.

March 12, 2021:

Diego has finally had a halter on his head! He now is on his way to learning to lead and yield to pressure. He seems ready to learn and is becoming less shy around people.

November 1, 2020:

Slow and steady for Diego. Diego is very close to being comfortable with the halter on his head. He will now let us pet him in the big pen he lives in without having to separate him out of the group. Diego is growing up to be a handsome young horse!

September 1, 2020:

Diego is making slow but steady progress!  He now allows the trainer to pet him all over his body and is starting the process of haltering.  He is more confident now and is playful with his roommates.  His favorite activity is running and frolicking with his buddies!

June 7, 2020:

Diego is still cautious of people but is working on his confidence. He will still approach us but has yet to be comfortable with us touching him. Recently he and the other yearlings have been introduced to liberty work in the bull pen here at the ranch. Diego was one of the quickest of the yearlings to understand what is being asked of him, and he seems to enjoy the work.

Update January 6, 2020:

Diego was weaned and has been living life with our other three weanlings.  He seems to be enjoying the company of other horses his age.  He shows signs of having very little, to no contact with people before coming to us.  But he is very curious with our presence.  Diego has been brave enough to smell a hand and has started to approach us on his own.

Diego is a grade weanling bay colt that is still on his dam Delta that came in from the area south of Cuba. He is very curious and is catching everyone’s eye. He has a quiet demeanor but obviously has not been handled. We will wean him soon and eventually add him into the group of three weanlings we have here at the ranch. I hope we will be able to get a sponsorship for Diego until he is old enough to participate in the 2022 GS Challenge. Not available for adoption.
