Volunteer Newsletter

Our wonderful volunteer Tina sends out an email update on what is going on at the ranch every Monday. If you would like to sign up for that let us know. Tina is at the ranch most Tuesday’s and is a very experienced horse woman that has been with us for years. Feel free to tap into her knowledge if you happen to meet her there. She is also currently helping us train Oliver to be more approachable and has invited him to her home to be able to workwith him on a daily basis.

Thank You Tina!

Dear Volunteers,

Well, we just couldn’t help ourselves... So many special moments at the shelter in 2012, the only way to tell the story  of all the
happy-ever-afters that you’re all a part of, is with these wonderful pictures, many –but interestingly enough, not all, from adoptions.   I want to dedicate this letter and the year to Blanco, however.  He kind of epitomized what we do at THS; rescue and love them back to happy days no matter where they end up.   Unfortunately for us, Saturday night he moved on to that big green pasture where there are no injuries or ailments to slow him down...  Interestingly enough, my son-in-law, who was part of the family Christmas Day work crew (my son, Riley, my daughter, Eliza, her husband, Brian, and family [ie, my Grandkids....] and my husband, Michael –see picture. Rogelio and his friend and Volunteers Ann and Nancy  were there as well, but Nancy was behind the camera and the others left before we got this shot) just happened to snap a beautiful photo of Blanco that day.  It’s the only horse he took a picture of for some reason...?!  I, for one, will miss his singing...   So, just wanted to share this past Christmas Day week through the rest of the year highlights, mostly happy-ever-after adoptions...but some just good ‘ole days at the shelter.  AND let you know we already have the first adoption of 2013 underway –Topaz!

And here’s
Carol’s note of thanks to you all:  I want to thank all of the volunteers who helped get these wonderful animals to their adoptive homes by all the mucking, and loving and feeding and just plain caring for these horses.  Ya'll made it happen and we're so appreciative of your efforts...it does take a village.

I'm also thinking of
those we lost this year...Chickasaw, Faith, Old Man, BamBam and now Blanco.  I'm  sad to say our most senior Blanco left us yesterday.  How we will miss his bellowing and demanding character....he was a great teacher and what a beautiful coat he had this winter.  Glad we had him for this time...he only arrived 1-27-11...but what an impact!  Thank you Berkley for being there again..

On a more happy note:
Topaz is being adopted and is going to a wonderful home.  I am so excited for Topaz and Andrea. I think Topaz is going to get to see old friend Slingshot (Maxwell now.)  That could be an interesting reunion.

January 5 starting The Halter Class again....by donation...thanks Amanda for continuing to teach us all...at 11:00 am.....Thanks John for donating the last two classes!

Much to be grateful for out here at The Horse Shelter.......

Happy New Year to all!   And hope to see you down at the shelter-
:) tina
